About Southwest Downtown

Approved by Colorado Springs City Council on August 14, 2001.

Southwest Downtown comprises over 100 acres of land located adjacent to the heart of

the City’s Central Business District, served as one of the area’s oldest and most central heavy industrial concentrations for decades. With the development of industrial parks and corridors outside of the core and continued growth of downtown as a regional hub for office, retail and residential uses, Southwest became less obvious and more costly as a location for industrial products. With designation of Southwest as an urban renewal area, development began on the 30-acre America the Beautiful Park, which today anchors what will become a premier urban neighborhood. Elements of the redevelopment program are expected to include: a range of urban housing

product offerings; commercial office and retail space, restaurants, and entertainment venues; and, a public transportation transfer center, all connected to the Pikes Peak Greenway trail system which reaches throughout and beyond the City limits.
